A woman has been charged after a puppy was killed by two XL bullies.

The dogs were reported to have escaped from an address on Grasmere Road in Ferryhill, County Durham, on 3 September before attacking the Cocker Spaniel and biting a woman.

The puppy, Maisie, died at the scene and the woman's injuries were not serious, Durham Police said.

A 25-year-old woman, from Brandon, has been charged with allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control and is due in court. Both animals had XL bully certificates and are being housed in police kennels.
