Police have charged four people including a student nurse over an alleged kidnap plot at a hospital.

Detectives said they were investigating an incident at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

Officers were called to the medical hub at about 17:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Safia Ahmadei, Edris Sahabzada, Abrahim Sahabzada and Zahra Sahebzadeh have been charged with conspiracy to kidnap.

Ms Ahmadei, 36, was arrested at New Cross Hospital shortly after officers were called last week.

The student nurse appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Friday and was remanded to appear at the city's crown court on 15 March.

The other three defendants, aged 44, 40 and 38 respectively and from Wolverhampton, were arrested on Saturday.

They were due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Monday.

"We continue to work with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust as our inquiries continue," West Midlands Police said.

Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust said it was aware of an ongoing investigation.
