Three women are accused of taking a "significant amount of money and jewellery" from a 73-year-old woman in exchange for a spiritual ritual to keep herself and her family safe.
Gwent Police said the women befriended their alleged victim in Newport city centre and offered to organise the ritual.
They were described as Cantonese speakers between the ages of 30 and 50 and having short black hair.
Detectives released CCTV footage of a woman, seen in the area at the time of the incident, who they believe can help with the investigation into alleged fraud.
