A man has died after the car he was driving hit a tree in South Nutfield, police have said.

Surrey Police said they were called to Coopers Hill Road at 21:45 GMT on Sunday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been made aware.

The road is closed in both directions and is likely to remain so for some considerable time, so drivers are being encouraged to seek alternative routes.

The force added they would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or who may have footage of what happened.
