An investigation into a potential shooting has been launched after a person heard a loud bang at their house and found two holes in the glass panel of their front door.

South Wales Police said it was called to the property on Maesglas in Pyle, Bridgend, just before 04:00 BST on Monday morning.

Officers discovered what appeared to be two bullets at the scene, the force said, adding the occupants were not injured.

"We are actively working to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident," Det Insp Gareth Holmes said, adding there would be an increased police presence in and around the area while the investigation continued.

The door to the property was boarded up, covering the damage, while officers carried out door-to-door enquires on Maesglas and neighbouring streets.

One neighbour who wanted to remain anonymous said: "The lady and her son who live in the house are lovely and have lived there for years.

"They're friends with everyone on the street. The feeling is it must be a case of mistaken identity, or someone has got the wrong address.

"It's such a peaceful area. If someone's fired a gun they must have been given the wrong address or gone to the wrong area," they said, "but they did look like bullets holes in the door."

Police are appealing to anyone with information, or was in the area at the time, to come forward.
