Cornwall Council says residents risk losing their chance to vote if they have not updated their details

People in Cornwall are being urged to check and update their electoral registration details.

While there are no upcoming elections in the county, Cornwall Council said residents risk losing their chance to vote in the future if they do not update their details.

A total of 65,000 residents who applied for a postal vote before October 2023 must apply again due to government rules which mean applications must be renewed every three years.

The council said it had started sending emails and letters to households asking people to confirm or update who lives at their address.

Kate Kennally, returning officer for Cornwall and chief executive officer at the council, said: "The annual canvass is our way of making sure that the information on the electoral register for every address is accurate and up to date.

"To make sure you don't lose your say at upcoming elections, please follow the instructions we send you."
