Police have shot a dog dead during an incident in Lincoln.

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with injuries to his arm after a disturbance in the area of Retief Close and Queen Elizabeth Road on Sunday morning.

Lincolnshire Police said two dogs escaped and were a danger to the public.

Officers tried to sedate the dogs with darts but one animal, which continued to be aggressive, had to be shot.

The second dog was taken to a vet for treatment.

Police said the specific breeds of the dogs were not yet proven, but they were not XL bullies.

Three people, a 20-year old woman, a 32-year old man and a 44-year old, have been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerous dog.

The woman was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage.
