Teenage boy seriously injured in assault

A teenage boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being assaulted, police have said.

The 17-year-old was attacked in Westcott Way, Corby, shortly after 16:30 BST.

Northamptonshire Police said the boy was taken to hospital after the "serious assault" but did not provide further details of the incident.

Images posted on social media showed a large number of police cars and other emergency service vehicles in the area and police said extra patrols would be taking place in the area on Friday and Saturday "to reassure the local community".
