Organisers of The Rotary Guernesiais shoebox campaign are hoping for donations

The drop off centre for Guernsey's annual shoebox appeal has opened.

Rotary Guernesiais is encouraging islanders to fill shoe boxes with gifts for disadvantaged children in Eastern Europe as part of its annual appeal.

In 2024, Guernsey collected 5,171 shoe boxes, but Rotary's Ann Outrum said she hoped to beat that number this year.

Any islanders who have filled a box can drop it off at Breton Construction on the Braye Road Industrial Estate until 26 October.

Suggestions for items to put in a box include basics such as soap bars (no liquids) toothpaste, flannels, toothbrushes, gloves, hats, scarves and underwear.

For children, items could include pens, paper, crayons, toys, picture books or soft toys.

For older children gifts could include jewellery, trigonometry sets, purses, combs or hairbrushes.
