A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a serious assault.
Police were called to Castle Street, Taunton, by the ambulance service shortly after 06:35 BST on Friday morning.
A man in his mid-30s was taken to hospital with injuries that were initially thought to be life-threatening, but he has since been discharged.
Another man, also in his mid-30s, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
A scene guard also remains at the site of the incident as investigations continue, police said.
They added that they believe the incident to involve "individuals who are known to each other" and therefore there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public.
