A man who attacked and wounded a pub manager with a machete-style knife has been jailed for three years.

Andrew Marvell, 57, of Elder Close, Skegness, carried out the attack at the Jack Snipe pub, formerly known as The Highwayman, on Queens Road on 14 February.

The incident left manager, Carl Shaw, with slash wounds on his head, eyelid, arm and hand.

Marvell had pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and having a machete-style knife at a hearing in March.

Lincoln Crown Court heard Marvell had been in the pub with his family when his wife became involved in an argument with another woman and threw a chair.

Both parties were told to leave but CCTV showed Marvell returning to the pub later that evening to attack Mr Shaw.

In a victim impact statement, which was read out in court, Mr Shaw said he now felt wary about who he let in the pub and added he was worried about repercussions.

'Act of revenge'

Tom Heath, mitigating for Marvell, said he had shown great remorse for the incident and that he had been acting in protection of his wife who suffers from significant health difficulties.

But Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight told Marvell: "Violence in public of this kind can only be met by an immediate custodial sentence.

"This was also an act of revenge on a publican who was only doing his job."
