Kind and caring staff help hospice gain top rating

A hospice whose staff have been described as "reliable and caring" has been given an outstanding rating by inspectors.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) team visited St Luke's hospice in Whirlow, Sheffield, in April and found its leadership, effectiveness and responsiveness deserved its highest rating.
Safety at the hospice was rated as good, so it was granted an overall rating by the CQC of outstanding.
St Luke's has been based in Sheffield for 50 years and helps terminally ill patients and their families, both at the hospice and in their own homes
St Luke's records showed patients were usually given the treatments they needed promptly, and that they felt staff were on hand if they needed help or support, the CQC report revealed.
Patients and families told the inspectors staff treated them with "warmth and kindness" and gave them effective care and treatment.
They said they saw the same people for their care and they were "reliable, knowledgeable and caring".
St Luke’s chief executive and chief nurse Jo Lenton said they were delighted to have received the rating.
“Our primary aim has always been to put our patients and their families at the heart of everything we do and it is particularly rewarding that inspectors recognised this and praised the dedication and hard work of all the St Luke’s teams," she said.
Ms Lenton said they would continue to build on their success as they had done for over 50 years to keep "providing outstanding care" for the people of Sheffield.
