Explosion land handed over for memorial garden

Andium Homes handed the south area of the site to the Government of Jersey on Friday

Some of the land affected by an explosion two years ago has been given to the government with plans to create a garden in memory of those who died.

Ten residents died after the incident at Haut du Mont, St Helier, on 10 December 2022.

The site belongs to States-owned housing provider Andium Homes which has given the south side of the site to the government.

The government said it was working with bereaved families on the development of a memorial garden dedicated to the victims of the explosion.

The land was transferred to the government at no cost, in court on Friday.

Andium said it would redevelop the 21 homes on the rest of the site in an "extensive" refurbishment programme that would be complete by the end of the year.
