Hundreds of cannabis plants have been found at a house in County Down by police who had been at the property for another matter.

The plants were discovered at a property on the Ballyworfy Road in Hillsborough on Monday night.

Officers said they noticed a strong smell of cannabis, and on checking the property uncovered cannabis growing in a number of rooms.

A 62-year-old man and 47-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis, amongst other offences and remain in custody at this time.

Insp Adams said: "A substantial quantity of drugs has now been prevented from reaching our streets and what appears to be a well-organised operation has been dismantled.

"Targeting drugs supply is a priority for the Police Service of Northern Ireland."
