Three people have been arrested after a man was seriously hurt when shots were fired in Birmingham.

Officers found the 19-year-old man after being called to Alderson Road, Washwood Heath, shortly before 22:30 BST on Saturday.

"He was taken to hospital, and remains in a life-threatening condition," West Midlands Police said on Monday.

Two men, aged 46 and 22, and a woman, aged 40, were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody as investigations continue, the force added.

The three suspects were arrested after officers stopped a car in Alum Rock Road.

Police believe it was an "isolated incident" and are carrying out extra patrols in the area to reassure local residents.

Officers are carrying out further inquiries at the scene and appealed for anyone who was in the area and may have seen or heard anything to come forward.
