Oswestry Town Council will work with developers to come up with more suitable names

Street names suggested by a developer have been rejected by a council.

Oswestry Town Council decided on Wednesday it would work with those involved in the development near the Mile End roundabout on Shrewsbury Road to come up with new names.

Six names which followed a rural, livestock and auction market theme were rejected, despite being considered by Shropshire Council to be compliant with street naming and numbering policy.

But town councillors concluded they did not have a strong connection with the town and they would look at alternatives.

"The council wishes to see the names of the streets on new development reflect the town's heritage," a spokesperson said..

The names that were rejected:

  • Arcadia Avenue

  • Shepherds Way

  • Cornfield Close

  • Longhorn Drive

  • Farriers Court

  • Dexter Gardens
