A young girl writing to Santa to ask for "my daddy to come home" has been put at the heart of a police force's Christmas advertising campaign.

Cheshire Police hopes its message - looking through the eyes of a child whose parent is absent due to them committing crime - will make people stop and think about the impact of their behaviour on loved ones.

Ch Supt Jon Betts said:  "If you choose to... commit crime then you will have no-one to blame but yourself. We hope the message hits home and [people] think about how their loved ones would feel if they weren't there over the festive period."

Throughout December, officers will be cracking down on anti-social behaviour, violence against women and girls, domestic abuse, and drink and drug driving.
