The trial of former London's Burning actor John Alford on charges of sex offences involving two underage girls has been delayed.

The 53-year-old, who first found fame as a child actor in Grange Hill, was due to appear at St Albans Crown Court for the start of a seven-day trial.

Alford, who is charged under his real name John Shannon, is accused of four counts of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16, and two counts relating to a second female - of sexual assault and assault by penetration.

The former actor, from Holloway in north London, denied the charges at a previous hearing.

The offences were allegedly committed in April 2022.
