Two inmates abscond from open prison on same day

Two prisoners, one jailed for assault and the other convicted of possessing an offensive weapon, have absconded from an open prison in Derbyshire.

Police have warned the public not to approach Jamie Insull and James McFarlane, who both left HMP Sudbury at about 10:10 BST on Wednesday.

Insull, 34, was convicted of assault by beating at Exeter Crown Court in February 2024 and is serving a prison sentence of three years and two months, Derbyshire Police said.

McFarlane, 46, is serving a sentence of two years and one month after being convicted of possessing an offensive weapon in a private place at Northampton Crown Court in October 2024.

He was also convicted of having a firearm without a certificate and possession with intent to supply cannabis and cocaine.

McFarlane is about 6ft (1.82m) tall, with a slim build, grey hair, blue eyes and has links to Wellingborough and Kettering in Northamptonshire.

Insull is about 5ft 6in (1.67m) tall with a slim build, dark hair and has links to Birmingham and Torquay.

Officers have appealed for information on the men, who are believed to have taken a Diamond Bus towards Uttoxeter and Burton-upon-Trent.
