A man charged with the murder of two men who died in a crash in Surrey has been denied bail.

Police were called to the A316 southbound slip road on to the M3 at about 00:50 BST on 22 July. One man was pronounced dead at the scene while a second died later the same day in hospital.

The victims were later named as William Birchard, 21, from Colnbrook, and Darren George, 22, from Egham.

Alex Rose, 29, from Sunbury, who has been charged with two counts of murder, was remanded in custody at a crown court hearing in Guildford on Tuesday.

Mr Rose will be subject of a plea and trial preparation hearing at the same court on 1 November.

Tara Knaggs, 24, of Great Ayton, Yorkshire, who is charged with assisting an offender, was also denied bail.

The first day of her plea and trial preparation hearing is 27 August. The second is 1 November.

Surrey Police said two other men, both aged 24, from Walton-on-Thames and Feltham in London, who were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder had been released on police bail.
