Two hikers suffering from hypothermia had to be rescued from a remote part of Dartmoor.

The pair were airlifted to hospital from Peat Cott near Princetown on Wednesday after they called emergency services.

Dartmoor Search and Rescue Plymouth said it was alerted at 18:55 BST by ambulance crews, and flew to the scene.

A response team on foot backed by colleagues in 4x4 vehicles found the hikers.

'Correct thing'

A spokesperson from the charity said: "They were suffering from hypothermia and air ambulance was requested to assist with an immediate evacuation to hospital.

"It was good to see that the hikers did the correct thing when members of their team were unwell.

"They stopped, erected tents and called the emergency services."

The team thanked Devon Air Ambulance, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Tavistock, South Western Ambulance Service and Devon and Cornwall 4x4 Response.
