A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Nottingham.

Police said it was called to an address in Westdale Lane West, in the Mapperley area, at 22:07 BST on Tuesday following concerns for a person's safety.

A woman in her 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said a 40-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder and the force has appealed for witnesses.

A cordon was put in place in Westdale Lane West along with another in Woodborough Road.

A third cordon was put in place around a taxi in Edwards Lane, outside Oxclose Lane Police Station, in Bestwood.

The force told the BBC it is thought these scenes are linked.

Det Insp Stuart Barson said: "Our deepest condolences are with the woman's family and friends at this difficult time, and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

"A team of detectives are working at pace to progress this investigation and we are urging anyone who was in the area before, during, and after the incident - or anyone who may have recorded CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage - to please get in touch.

"Officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the area and residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while our inquiries continue.

"I'd like to reassure residents that we believe this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public."
