A juvenile seal has been rescued after it was found with nylon fishing line around its neck.

Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust (LWT) said the seal was discovered by its wardens at the Ministry of Defence air weapons range at Donna Nook in East Lindsey.

It was assessed before being taken to Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary and Wildlife Centre.

LWT said the injury was "deep and infected".

'Very feisty'

The line was removed and the wound was treated with antibiotics.

It will eventually be able to return to the Donna Nook colony.

LWT said: "At 60kg, the seal is underweight for its age, but it was very feisty and snarled a lot, which is a positive sign that it's still strong.

"It will keep the scar for the rest of its life but will be released to rejoin the Donna Nook colony once it is fit and the injury has healed."
