Event marks UK's first suicide remembrance day

The event, held within the grounds of Warwick Castle, aimed to offer people hope for the future

An event has been held to mark the UK's first annual suicide remembrance day.

Conceived by suicide prevention charity and mental health helpline SOS Silence of Suicide, the day aims to acknowledged and respect the bereaved.

Hosted at Warwick Castle, Wednesday evening's event shared memories of loved ones and featured a gospel choir and spoken word performances.

Michael Mansfield and his wife Yvette set up the charity in 2015 following personal losses.

It provides a helpline and chat service to offer a safe, confidential space to talk to others.

It will be launching face-to-face support via mobile hubs from the end of May.

"[People] want someone to listen so they feel heard and it's amazing how powerful just being able to listen can actually be," Ms Mansfield said.

Michael Mansfield and his wife Yvette founded the charity in 2015
