Colchester United installing new drainage system

Colchester United shortened the dimensions of its pitch last season to address the drainage issues

Workers have began installing a new drainage system under Colchester United's pitch, the club has said.

In March, the club was given permission to reduce the size of its pitch to help fix drainage problems.

The League Two club had to postpone two home games after rain led to a waterlogged pitch.

In a Facebook post, external, the club said work was under way.

English Football League (EFL) officials approved changes to the pitch ahead of a home game against Walsall in in mid-March.

Colchester finished third from bottom of League Two narrowly avoided dropping into non-league football.
