A woman shot to death when she answered the door of a flat was only visiting the address, a jury heard.
Cardiff Crown Court was told Joanne Penney had been staying at the property, in Talbot Green, Rhondda Cynon Taf, for a week because she was homeless.
The trial had previously heard Ms Penney was killed as a result of a turf war between two rival gangs dealing drugs in south Wales.
Ms Penney, 40, had just got out of bed and was cooking bacon and eggs when she heard a knock at the door.
Susanne Day, also visiting the flat at the time, described the incident in March this year as "just horrible" and the shooting coming "utterly out of the blue".
Marcus Huntley, 21, of St Mellons, Cardiff, has already admitted murdering Ms Penney.
Jordan Mills Smith, 33, from Cardiff, denies murder. Joshua Gordon, 27; Melissa Quailey-Dashper, 40; Kristina Ginova, 21, and Tony Porter, 68, all from Leicester, deny murder and taking part in organised gang crime.
Recalling the morning of Ms Penney's death, Ms Day told police: "There was a bang on the door and Jo screamed and she'd been shot."
Katie Summers and her brother Shaun Summers lived at the flat, which was also being visited by Jade Williams.
At the time of the shooting Ms Day said she, Ms Penney, Mr Summers and Ms Williams were present.
She said: "She came across the living room and fell onto the settee where myself and Jade sat, she fell into me and I shouted [for] Jade to phone for an ambulance, to phone 999.
"I was holding Jo and she took a breath then she slid off the settee onto her knees and I was still holding her."

Marcus Huntley has admitted murder, while Tony Porter, Melissa Quailey-Dashper, Jordan Mills-Smith and Joshua Gordon deny the charges against them
'It was horrible, just horrible'
While on her knees, the court heard, Jo took a deep breath and Ms Day thought she was OK.
Ms Day said she tried to put Ms Penney on her back as requested by the 999 call handler.
The court heard she lifted Ms Penney's shirt to find the right place to perform CPR but was unable to as she could not find the right spot.
Others were heard on the 999 call saying they could not do it.
One said: "I can't do it my mental health is through the roof."
Ms Day told police: "I kept telling the woman on the phone she was gone."
The court heard no-one in the flat could help Ms Penney.
"I heard a loud bang and she screamed she's been shot," Ms Day said, adding: "I just wanted the ambulance to come.
"It was horrible, just horrible."
'It was totally out of the blue'
As Ms Penney went to answer the door Ms Day said she "heard a loud bang and she screamed she's been shot".
"She came upstairs and into the living room door and collapsed on the settee," she said.
No-one in the flat was able to help Ms Penney, the jury was told.
"I just wanted the ambulance to come. It was horrible, just horrible," Ms Day said.
The police asked her why anyone would attack those in the flat.
"It was totally and utterly out of the blue," Ms Day said.
Ms Day wondered whether the wrong address had been targeted, the court heard.
She said: "I can not make sense of it. I didn't see anybody. I didn't hear anybody speaking. I didn't hear any vehicles."
The 999 call lasted 29 minutes until police and paramedics arrived, the court was told.
The court heard on Monday,10 March, Huntley shaved his head and dumped the weapon in Cardiff woodland.
He then boarded a train from Cardiff Central to Leicester at 11:29 BST.
The jury was told other defendants were seen in Leicester before being arrested on that evening.
Mr Mills-Smith was arrested, the court heard, in Stowmarket on Friday, 14 March.
The court heard Huntley heard about the arrests and got on a coach to Cardiff.
He was arrested when it arrived just after midnight on 11 March.
The court was told Huntley told an associate he murdered Ms Penney because she was "a crackhead" and that someone in the house had "set up my runner" with people who "terrorised him".
The case continues.
