Six boys have been bailed after tiles and other projectiles were thrown from the roof of a derelict building in a city centre.

Police said trespassers climbed on to the roof of the former Debenhams store in Long Row, Nottingham, at about 14:00 BST on Thursday.

The boys, aged between 12 and 14, were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and public nuisance.

They will not be able to enter the city centre, under their bail conditions, unless for education or legal appointments, police added.

It prompted a large response from police, as well as the fire service and ambulance.

Sgt Jono Pothecary, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "These individuals not only put themselves in significant danger but also put the public in significant danger.

"As demonstrated in this instance, if you come to Nottingham and disrupt the lives of those who are going about their lawful business, you can absolutely expect us to take robust action against you as we will not let the few spoil our city for the many."
