The Guernsey Development Agency (GDA) has expressed an intention to reclaim land on the north side of St Sampson's Harbour.

As part of comments about Guernsey's planning rules the GDA stated it wants to use that land and Griffiths Yard for a mixed-use housing development.

Director of the GDA Simon Kildahl suggested the development could also include a sea filled open air swimming pool, slipway and possibly a restaurant and café.

The group was given £250,000 by the States of Guernsey last year to look at plans to improve the island's East Coast.

As part of the representation on the Island Development Plan's (IDP) focussed review, Mr Kildahl commented "to achieve these plans this area needs to be zoned for residential and mixed use including food and beverage".

Currently Griffiths Yard is used by a number of light industrial businesses, including a number of scaffolding firms.

It is also used for sewage outfall and the storage of some sewage carts.

Mr Kildahl goes on to suggest some of the Guernsey Electricity site on the Bridge may become vacant in the future and that could be used for housing.

He suggested a meeting between the DPA and the GDA to discuss its other plans to improve the East Coast.

Guernsey's Development and Planning Authority has asked for a delay to give further consideration to the comments made about the IDP.

Some politicians have raised concerns the delay may lead to the review spilling over into the next political term.
