A pyrotechnics company’s managing director will appear in court accused of five health and safety breaches following a fire that shut the M4 in Berkshire.

The road was closed for about four hours between junctions 13 and 14 because of debris from the blaze in Westbrook, near Newbury, on 16 April 2022.

Terence Herbert, 67, of Binley, Hampshire, is the managing director of Fireworks & FX Ltd, which is based in Westbrook.

Mr Herbert will appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 27 September to enter pleas.

The prosecution is being led by West Berkshire Council, according to court documents.
