Seafront concert to mark 80th anniversary of VE Day

Plans have been announced to mark next year's 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Weymouth Town Council will hold a beachfront concert on 10 May to mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Local groups will also be able to apply for financial support to organise their own events to mark the occasion.
Cllr Matt Bell, chair of the authority's environment and services committee, said: “Weymouth has a rich history of putting on a variety of events, and next year will be no exception, with a live music concert on the beach to celebrate VE day, and a variety of firework displays and fairground attractions to enjoy."
Alongside the seaside concert, the committee agreed to run a Dig for Victory-inspired competition to grow fruit and vegetables will also be held.
Community groups are also being encouraged to organise their own events to mark the occasion - with a grant of up to £350 available for each group.
The council will waive site fees for any events held on their land - provided they were associated with VE Day and community or charity led.
The town's summer firework displays have been approved for the next five years, with two of these using "lower noise" fireworks following public feedback.
A traditional bonfire night display on 5 November will also take place.
The Carols on the Coast event, which began last year, and a summer funfair were also given the go-ahead by the council.
