A man has appeared in court charged with several offences after police officers were hit by a car in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said one officer was taken to hospital but has since been released, while two others had minor injuries.

It said three police vehicles and a parked car were also struck in the incident on Montpellier Street, Highgate, on Saturday at about 09:30 BST.

Mohammed Shaheeb, 38, of Roma Road, Birmingham, who is accused of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving, appeared before magistrates in Birmingham.

He is also charged with failing to stop, going equipped for theft and possession of a blade, possession of cannabis and motoring offences.

The case was sent to Birmingham Crown Court, where Mr Shaheeb is expected to appear for a hearing on 4 November.
