A 45-year-old man found at a landfill site almost two months after he went missing had been fatally stabbed in the neck, a coroner said.
Prosecutors believe Cumali Turhan was mutilated before being knifed inside Barista bar in Chelmsford on 19 November, with his body being disposed of in a bin.
Police discovered his body at the Enovert waste site in Stanway, near Colchester, on 11 January, Essex Coroner's Court was told.
Opening an inquest into Mr Turhan's death, area coroner Michelle Brown said the whereabouts of the man suspected of murdering him were unknown.

Police believe that man - 38-year-old Ceyhan Dinler - fled to Turkey after Mr Turhan's death.
"Initially, two body parts were found at the scene in Duke Street in Chelmsford," Ms Brown said.
She added the the coroner's office had been called "out of hours" from the crime scene to tell them the body had been found.

The tip of Mr Turhan's tongue and his severed penis were found inside a bin at Barista in November
The coroner said Mr Turhan's provisional cause of death had been given as "a stab wound to the neck".
She adjourned the inquest process and said it would be "kept under review" by herself and Essex Police.
The force suspects Mr Dinler left the UK via London Stansted Airport on 19 November.

Police are looking for Ceyhan Dinler in connection with Mr Turhan's death
Another man, 44-year-old Ciprian Ilie, has been on trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, accused of assisting Mr Dinler and preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body.
Jurors have been told the tip of Mr Turhan's tongue and his penis were severed during an attack inside Barista and later found in a bin.
It was alleged Mr Turhan was murdered having "had a relationship" with Mr Dinler's girlfriend.
His body was then dumped in a different commercial bin behind the venue.
Mr Ilie is accused of cleaning up the crime scene after the attack and helping to dispose of Mr Turhan's body.
He denies the offences and the trial, which began on Tuesday, continues.
