A college took "safeguarding" action after two men were seen outside the site with knives.

Police were called to Suffolk New College, in Rope Walk, Ipswich, on Tuesday at 14:30 BST.

College principal and chief executive Alan Pease said officers "quickly established that no one had been injured" and the "situation was resolved".

A Suffolk Police spokesman said no arrests were made.

Mr Pease said staff were made aware of an incident outside college premises and launched safety protocols.

"Education providers prepare for incidents of this nature, so safeguarding action to protect staff and students immediately commenced and the police were called to the scene," he said.

"On arriving, the police quickly established that no one had been injured and the situation was resolved."

A police spokesman said two men had been seen with knife, but were later "seen to leave" the area.
