A security alert in Keady, County Armagh, has ended after police confirmed that a device discovered in a car was a viable pipe bomb.

The discovery was made following a police pursuit of a white Toyota Landcruiser that began in Lurgan in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after the vehicle failed to stop for officers.

The chase ended when a stinger device was deployed in the Keady area, police said.

The occupants of the vehicle, two men aged 22 and 37, have since been arrested and remain in police custody.

A sign saying Granemore road rests against the sticks from a leafless bush. Grass can be seen off the side of the road. There is a van and two men on the road with a barrier across it. There is a horse standing in a field behind the sign. It is looking out over a barbed wire fence.
