Dough & Oil co-founder Vivek Bhatia says restaurant week helps highlight independent businesses in the town

A nine-day event to promote a town's independent restaurants has launched.

Shrewsbury's Restaurant Week, organised by Shrewsbury BID, is taking place until 2 November.

More than 30 restaurants are taking part and the event has been curated by chef Steve Guy, aka influencer The Hungry Guy, who said he was delighted to have been asked to be involved in the event because of the vibrancy of Shrewsbury's foodie scene.

Vivek Bhatia, of restaurant Dough & Oil, said the week helped highlight the independent businesses in the town which has been described as "the most underrated food town in Britain" by YouTuber Jono from Only Scrans.

"I think there's plenty of people in the town looking for a city-style experience who don't necessarily want to travel to Manchester or Birmingham or London, Mr Bhatia said.

"They want it on their doorstep and hopefully we can bring a little bit of that."
