An 11-year-old boy has been seriously injured by a car that was involved in a police pursuit.
The child was knocked down in Oatlands Drive in Slough at about 19:15 BST on Wednesday. He remains in a stable condition in hospital.
The black Volkswagen Passat, which had a driver and passenger, fled the scene and was later found abandoned, police said.
Two men, aged in their 20s and from Slough, have been arrested and released on police bail.
The men are suspected of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, perverting the course of justice and driving a motor vehicle dangerously, police said.
In a statement, officers said the car hit the child at the junction with Stoke Poges Lane while failing to stop for officers.
Insp Simon Hills said: "We are investigating this incident, and the circumstances surrounding it, as a priority and have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to the police pursuit beforehand.
"I would ask people to please avoid participating in any speculation surrounding the circumstances of this incident, especially on social media, out of respect to the family at this difficult time."
