National Express to raise adult single bus fare
- Published
The cost of a single adult fare on National Express buses in the West Midlands will increase by 90p, the firm has announced.
The company said adult single tickets would be £2.90 from 5 January and all of its other tickets and passes would remain unchanged.
The move keeps the cost of the operator's single tickets lower than the government's single bus fare cap of £3, which comes in on 1 January, the firm said.
National Express provides services in Wolverhampton, Coventry and Birmingham, external.
Bus strategy and commercial director Antony Goozee said: "Bus is by far the most popular form of public transport here in the West Midlands and we are proud to provide affordable bus travel for passengers across the communities that we serve."
He said customers travelling on the network before 5 January would be charged £2 per single journey.
The fares set out apply to the National Express Coventry bus network and not the National Express coach network, the company said.
The operator has been testing out a single-decker electric bus service on roads in Coventry this year.
