Parents are being invited to leave messages of remembrance at two hospitals as part of Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Peterborough City Hospital (PCH) and Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Cambridgeshire are due to take part in the event on Friday.

The awareness week runs from 9 to 15 October and hopes to remind grieving parents and families that they are not alone.

"Losing a baby affects one in two people and it’s [a] devastating time for anyone having to go through it," said Lesley Carline, bereavement specialist midwife.

Parents and families will be able to leave their messages of remembrance on trees of light which will be at the Faith Centre at PCH and the Chapel at Hinchingbrooke, in Huntingdon.

There will be two dedicated coffee afternoons in these areas on Monday, followed by a short service led by one of the hospital chaplains.

The hospitals are also due to light up in pink and blue to mark the event.

Ms Carline added: "It can feel like a very frightening, unpredictable time and we want to remind people of the support we can offer to help guide them and their families during such a difficult time in their lives."
