Rail disruption continues in wake of Storm Darragh

West Midlands Railway said part of the Cross City line remained closed

Commuters have been warned of continuing rail disruption across the West Midlands as the clear-up continues in the wake of Storm Darragh.

The Cross City south line remained closed on Tuesday from Birmingham New Street to Bromsgrove and Redditch after collapsed trees damaged overhead lines.

Network Rail said workers would get to the track overnight on Tuesday to repair the cables.

No trains will run from Shrewsbury to Swansea until the end of the day and services also remain cancelled between Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford, both due to storm damage.

Along with the disruption caused by the storm, services between Tamworth and Polesworth, Warwickshire, continued to be affected by ongoing work on a damaged embankment, discovered last Tuesday.

Hundreds of trees collapsed across the region over the weekend due to the high winds caused by Storm Darragh.

On Saturday, a man named locally as Kher Hussain Shahin, was killed when a tree fell on to a car on Sutton Road in Erdington, Birmingham.
