A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire.

Police said the pedestrian was struck by a livestock carrier on the southbound carriageway near junction 21 at about 17:30 GMT on Sunday and died at the scene.

The driver, passengers and horses in the vehicle were uninjured, officers said.

Witnesses and dashcam footage are being sought following the incident, which led to a stretch of the road being closed for several hours.
