A murder investigation has been launched after a 71-year-old man died.

Police officers were called to a flat in Leatherland Court in Kettering, Northamptonshire, following reports of a concern for welfare at about 18:30 GMT on Saturday.

The 71-year-old man was found with fatal injuries and a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and theft of a motor vehicle in connection with the incident on Saturday night.

He remains in police custody and Det Insp Torie Harrison said officers were working to establish the events which led to the man's death.

"This is a fast-moving investigation and our team is working tirelessly to establish the events which led to this man's death in order to bring those responsible to justice," she said.

"My thoughts are with his family at what is an exceptionally distressing and devastating time, and specially trained officers are supporting them."
