A major route will be closed for a second day after a tanker overturned and spilled a "significant" quantity of fuel.

The vehicle came off the A66 near Threlkeld in Cumbria, between the A591 at Keswick and the A5091 (Troutbeck) shortly after 05:00 GMT on Saturday.

National Highways said the tanker had been recovered but "an extensive repair and resurfacing operation" is "likely take another day at least".

Diversions are in place but journeys are likely to take much longer than normal, it added.
