A major road in York is to be closed for five weeks to allow for essential resurfacing works.

Work will take place on the A1079 Hull Road from Monday to 21 October between Tang Hall Lane and the Grimston Bar roundabout, City of York Council has said.

Lane closures will be in place between 09:30 and 15:00 with full road closures in place between 20:00 and 05:00. The road will be open at weekends.

The council has asked drivers to plan ahead and apologised in advance for any inconvenience caused. Businesses will remain open.

Buses, including the Park and Ride, will be escorted through the night-time road closures and emergency services will be able to get through the roadworks as needed, a spokesperson said.

The first phase of the work will require night-time closures every weekday from 15 September to 29 September from the Grimston Bar roundabout to Tranby Avenue/ Field Lane roundabout.

During the second phase, night-time closures will be in place every weekday from 30 September to 15 October from Tang Hall Lane traffic lights to Tranby Avenue /Field Lane roundabout.

The final phase runs from 16-21 October on the Tranby Avenue/Field Lane roundabout.

During the day the roundabout will be open, but there may be times when lane closures are needed.

Bins will be collected as normal, with residents asked to put bins and recycling out after 19:00 the day before and before 07:00 on the day of their usual service.
