Chichester District Council has approved a £950,000 grant to help deliver 19 affordable homes.

The local authority said the funding would help deliver 13 social rent and six shared ownership homes in North Mundham.

It said the properties would be built to net zero carbon standards to help residents cut down on energy bills.

Oona Hickson, cabinet member for housing revenues and benefits, said it was a "significant step forward in addressing local housing needs".

"We are ensuring the homes are built to high environmental standards that benefit residents and the wider community," she added.

The funding was approved at a meeting on Tuesday, with the total cost estimated at £6.2m.

The council said additional contributions were expected from Worthing Homes and Homes England.

A spokesperson for the council said its housing register data "indicates strong demand in the North Mundham area, with 38 households previously identified as in need of affordable housing".
