An emergency road closure has been put in place after a hole was discovered.

A stretch of Durham Road near St Crispin's Court in Stockton-on-Tees was shut on Tuesday for "urgent repairs".

It is not known how long the road will be closed for, as further investigative work into the "void" continues.

A spokesperson for Stockton Borough Council apologised for "any inconvenience" and said an update would follow once further works were carried out.

The council said the closure affects routes between St Crispin's Court and the access to Brook House, which provides community adult mental health services run by Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Trust.

Traffic diversions are in place.
