Cornish golfers in 184-hole day-night challenge

The pair and their supporters used floodlights and head torches to play through the night

Two Cornish golfers are recovering after completing 184 holes inside 24 hours in an epic charity challenge.

Ross Lawrance and Nicolas Brewaeys started at 11:00 GMT on Sunday and played through the night at West Cornwall Golf Club in Lelant, spending 21 hours 45 minutes on the course.

The pair used floodlights and head torches to illuminate the course and were supported by club members who helped them spot where balls had landed.

The effort had already raised more than £5,500 for Prostate Cancer UK and they hoped they had set a new Guinness World Record as well, they said.

Speaking from the clubhouse shortly after finishing, Nicolas Brewaeys told BBC Radio Cornwall they had covered about 56 miles (90km) each during the challenge.

They added: "We are very tired.

"We're basically pushed ourselves to our mental and physical limits to raise as much money as we can for Prostate Cancer UK.

"We are delighted and we want to say thank you to the members of West Cornwall Golf Club who were with us every step of the way, ball-spotting and just being there for motivational support.

"We couldn't have done it without them."

The recent dry weather had left the fairways perfect, but the weather was not entirely friendly.

Mr Brewaeys said: "It was very breezy and we were very unfortunate in the night.

"We had some very heavy rain showers, two of them that lasted 20 minutes each, so everybody out with us got soaking wet as well, which made it extra fun but we pushed through."

The duo said they were hoping they had broken the current Guinness World Record for the most holes played in 24 hours in a pair walking, which was set in 2014 and stands at 180 holes.

Their application is still being processed by Guinness World Records, so they will not know if it is an official record for a while.
