Two roads in York city centre will be closed to traffic for work to be carried out

Two streets in York city centre are to be closed to traffic to allow a month-long sewer repair project to take place.

Yorkshire Water said work at King's Square would start on Monday, with the area closed to motor vehicles until 13 October.

Meanwhile, work in Goodramgate is due to start on 13 October and finish on 24 October, a spokesperson for the firm said.

The company said the closures would be "disruptive" but added that they were "absolutely necessary in order for us to complete these repairs safely".

Both routes will be open to pedestrians throughout the works.

Vehicles will be diverted by Parliament Street and Blue Badge Holders, who have access to the city centre through bollards during the day, have been asked to drive in along Blake Street and exit by Lendal.

"We'll be working quickly and doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum," the water company spokesperson added.
