Pedestrian dies after being hit by car

The woman died after being struck by a car on the A167 near Durham in the early hours

A 22-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a car.
Police were called to the A167 in Neville's Cross on the outskirts of Durham at 02:00 GMT.
The woman was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary but died a short time later, Durham Police said.
The car involved in the collision is believed to be a silver VW Golf GTi clubsport which police said failed to stop. The road was closed for several hours.
