It has emerged 13 Jersey people were affected by the blood transfusion scandal which affected thousands across the UK.

A Freedom of Information request showed that they were given contaminated blood products by the NHS in the 1970s and 1980s.

Thousands of patients were given transfusions of blood that could contain infections such as HIV or Hepatitis.

Jersey's health service said that transfusion-related diseases were not listed as the cause of death of any the local people affected who have since died.

Jersey Health and Community Services said it was aware of 13 patients who were "affected by contaminated pooled blood products".

"Transfusion-related infection is not documented as a cause of death in those that have passed away" it said.

"It will only be possible to ascertain if infection has occurred as a result of non-pooled blood products going forwards".
