Hundreds of participants are set to take on walking challenge that stretches from the north to the south of the Isle of Man.

The 39-mile (63km) End to End walk, which starts at the Point of Ayre and finishes at The Sound, begins at 08:00 BST.

Race director Tony Mackintosh said was a "real challenge" for participants and this year's total of 303 entrants was a record number for the past decade of the event.

"I think people like the idea that you can walk from one end of the island to the other," he said.

He said it was a "good community event" that attracted a mix of competitors, including some who race the course, as well as other who "go out and see how far they can get".

The record for completing the full course is six hours, 11 minutes and 23 seconds, set by Dominic King in 2022.

The event is held on long stretches of paved roads passing through Bride, Jurby and Peel before climbing up to Cregneash in the south of the island and ending at the Sound.

There are three checkpoints throughout the route, and walkers need to complete the challenge ahead of the 10-and-a-half hour cut off point.

Mr Mackintosh said the forecast meant the 2025 event was going to be a "damp day and a bit blustery," but it always had a "good atmosphere from start to finish" regardless of the weather.

"I hope everyone has a good walk, stays safe and enjoys themselves," he added.
